Welcome to petitioncentury.com

PetitionCentury.com – the home for petitions with a serious kick-more-ass attitude!

The fundamental problem with most E-petitions and online causes to support something is that they really don’t change anything. Zero. Nada. They are kicked up, they gather a some interested followers and as quickly as they spread they’re forgotten and gone. No action taken. No concrete visualization that would generate more buzz and media coverage. Only the website visitors will see them and the web is really not a good platform to make a change or fire up the heat on important things.

Secondly, have a look about the quality and number of these thingies. People are free to start any petitions or causes they want and this inevitably leads to something like “I want my neighbor’s dog to stop barking at night.” or “isn’t my pet hamster cute?”. 100 people will sign up, the page will be buried somewhere deep in the Internet and that’s it. Sure, there are some authority sites and good intentions as well, but the vast amount of pure nonsense and duplicate petitions with no real intent to act upon it have led to a situation where online petitions really do not work anymore (if they ever even have worked..).

Why PetitionCentury.com?

We will not host any petitions or causes without intent to do something more than just gathering online signatures. And first off, to avoid useless stuff, all petitions and causes featured here will be moderated before approval. This means reviewed by our staff. The ones that are simply silly or clearly have no chance of achieving anything, we’ll drop out. This doesn’t mean that we would have an overwhelmingly difficult acceptance ratio here, though. We just want to weed out the absolutely silliest ones (and believe us, most of them usually are). You still can and you should suggest your favourite causes and petitions to us. Nothing to lose! This is the way we start all of our movements here - initiated by you and you only. If it really is a good one, and you might even be willing to help realizing and promoting it, we will accept it and will gladly give you all the credit for it!

And by realizing a cause or petition, what do we actually mean? This is what makes the difference. Our goal is that all the campaigns run here will eventually lead to some concrete action taken. This can be for example:

  • An event/party/rally organized in a city relevant to the campaign.
  • A print out version of the cause or petition with the list of all participants delivered to the target person or authority or organization. Whether it’s just a list of fans or a petition for something bigger, it still should be concretely delivered instead of just residing online and being soon forgotten.
  • A theme day for boycotting some specific product(s)/company in the spirit of the according petition.
  • Literally anything suggested by you, as long as it’s legit, moral and ethical.

As stated, in any case we do not endorse harmful or immoral activities. We just believe that standard E-petitions and causes are not efficient enough to make a real change or reach wide enough an audience. We want, with your help, to create a more effective way to appeal to bigger amount people and generate a higher media coverage to the issues and things you’re driving for. Even a small concrete action on an important petition will be of greater value than just another quickly forgotten E-petition. Also, this can act as a fun way to get similar minded people together for an important cause or just for spending time together and networking! Another thing we differ from others will be that we won’t list currently running petitions on the frontpage, as we will be offering certain goodies sponsored by other parties to the participants for each petition and want to keep pure leechers away.

So, Where Can I Suggest New Petitions or Causes?

Click “Suggest New or Contact!”. It’s right there to the upper right corner! Please leave your name, or alias if you want to remain anonymous, e-mail address (important) and a description of your suggestion. We would also like to hear your suggestion on how and when (after how many signups) to realize this petition or cause. You will be encouraged to brainstorm this further together with other people signing the campaign and deciding on the best action to take. We will notify you promptly if your suggestion is approved and will ask you for longer description about the cause or petition, background on the subject and any relevant information you might want us to provide here for that campaign. Naturally we will be glad to accept any help promoting the motion.

Have a Question?

Use the same form, but instead of “Suggestions”, target your message to “Questions”. We will put up a FAQ section here shortly for the most often asked questions!

“Congress shall make no law…abridging…the right of the people peaceably
to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

Happy petitioning, everyone!
